Blog Four: Understanding the Importance of Knowing Artists
Today I rewatched a YouTube series called "Draw-Off" by the channel BuzzFeedVideo. The series featured many artists with different lines of work and often challenged them to draw famous animated characters from memory. Sometimes, they would also bring in guest stars to join in on the challenge videos.

During the time I watched these videos a couple years ago, I focused more on how accurately they could draw the character rather than some of the guest stars that were on the series. Watching it again, I realized some of the people who were making guest appearances on the shows were actually animators and artists who worked with Disney, Nickelodeon, and the Simpsons! I was amazed at how this detail didn't stick with me before, but rewatching the videos made me appreciate it more now.

One thing that I noticed after watching the series again was how the usual artists on the show always knew who the guest stars were and what questions to ask when they were paired with them. For example, in the video above, Kyra knew that Tony Bancroft worked on the Disney movie "Beauty and the Beast", specifically working on the character Cogsworth (timestamp @ 01:00 – 01:11). She also asked Tony about the construction of Disney princesses, which he took interest in explaining the intentions behind the concept (timestamp @ 02:59 – 03:31). This interaction made me realize how important it was to be knowledgeable in the animation companies, especially the people who work in those industries. I know only a handful of artists that are behind the shows and movies that I watch, so I'm going to make it a personal goal to learn more about the people that work on the stories I love so much!
